About Designers

Swe Brinin

Swe's PortraitFashion has always been a passion for me since early childhood, as with many women.  Designing became more of a true passion when the trends could not satisfy me. I wanted daring and original clothes that didn’t follow the seasonal changes. Some of my designs are a little out-of-the-box and allow me to express my sometimes crazy creativity. This my inspiration, as I quite often question “Why doesn’t somebody design this” or “Why doesn’t someone make that” or “Has anybody ever thought of doing …” , so therefore I create around my curiousity.

A jewellery designer from a young age I always enjoyed beading. I began with simple beaded bracelets for friends and family. Over time this hobby grew into a passion and after compliments from people my passion developed into the business known as Nique Designs.

To craft each piece of jewellery I draw inspiration from many places including nature. This inspiration combined with a mixture of materials such as crystal, wire, metal. pearls and glass to create simple but elegant jewellery pieces to suit anyone’s style.

I always loved all types of hand crafts; I sew, knit, embroidery and paint. Crochet has always been my favourite. I learned crochet by watching a friend making granny squares, she showed me how and I was ‘Hooked’. My Grandma would make me crochet ponchos for my birthdays and I would wear them as skirts and one shoulder tops. Marriage, mortgage, 4 kids, work and life in general put my creative ideals on the back burner, I soothed my creative ambitions by collecting all types of needlework and craft pattern books and magazines. I have a huge collection of retro, vintage and antique patterns, my oldest dates back to 1686. I always dreamed of being a designer. After a life threatening illness and an accident I became disabled. After my recovery I was not able to work anymore and I needed to do something with my time so I reignited my passion for crochet. I am thrilled that my dream of being a crochet designer is being realised. I admire Doris Chan and Lily Chin. A sorry lack of crochet plus size apparel, Bridal and Formal occasion items, has really inspired me to design crochet bridal wear and jewellery. A beautifully hand crafted crochet wedding gown that would become an heirloom is my ultimate aim.

I’ve dreamed of being a fashion designer since I was 14. I first came to this realisation when I was browsing stores and found that there was nothing there that appealed to me. I have a particular interest in Subculture Fashions, Punk, Goth, Lolita and Japanese Deco to name a few. I always loved the outrageousness of Japanese street fashions and hope one day to create my own clothing line of street fashion inspired alternative fashion. Growing up in a small town, it was hard to express myself through fashion as there was nowhere to buy such items. I am now fulfilling my dreams through designing such unique garments.
